When I started learning Spanish, I saw there were levels in the lessons. At present, the Duolingo level is a part of the path in which the courses can be completed. Each level represents the higher level of understanding which is represented by a circle. The circle includes a lot of different activities like a set of lessons, stories, and personalized practice. A single level is known to be a step along the path. 

Important: Earlier, there were 25 different levels which you had to complete one by one along the path. These levels were based on the number of XP scores. After that, there were crowns on Duolingo. Each of the crowns represents a particular level of skill.

How do Duolingo levels work?

When I was using it to learn Spanish, they only used to give me a level based on the number of XPs earned. However, currently, the pattern has changed. The Duolingo levels now are the different steps in the course. The objective of each level is to finish the prescribed number of tasks and lessons. Once you complete all the tasks in a single level, you can move to one step higher level. This will continue till you complete your unit. In every unit, you will get a maximum of 8 levels, depending on the course you are taking.

How many levels are there on Duolingo?

If we consider the earlier system of Duolingo, there were 1-25 levels. Level 1 was the easiest level and 25th was the hardest level. When you finish the levels, you will get to unlock the achievements. The following table shows what is the point score for each of the levels-

However, with the new updates, the number of levels you will be having for the course will depend upon the course content. Suppose we talk about Spanish and French courses, they will have more levels than compare to the Japanese language. 

What is the difference between Levels and Crown levels?

The new level system is almost similar to the old crown levels. The only difference between both of them is how they are organized. Earlier these levels were organized into different skills and were 6 different levels. You can also complete all the levels at a time.

At present, these levels are divided into lessons. You will not be able to complete all the levels simultaneously. It means you will have to complete a single level and go on to the other level. However, what I liked about it is that both the present levels and crowns helped you to earn some XP.

How can you skip the Duolingo level?

If you know some of the basics of the targeted languages, you may want to skip the starting levels. It is easy to skip the levels on Duolingo. Follow the steps given below to skip the level-

Go on the unit or the level you want to start from. You will see a big bubble above which will be the “Jump Here: option. Just, tap on it.

You will see a new window. Just tap on “Let’s go”.

Take the test and pass it. Remember that there will be no hint for it. If you are able to pass the test, you will be able to get on the desired unit.

Can you start from a higher level in Duolingo?

Of course, you can start from a higher level in Duolingo. When I was learning German, I already had some knowledge of it. Due to this, I did not want to start it again. One feature that helped me was Duolingo’s placement test. With the help of this test, I was able to start from a higher level of the course you are studying. If you also already have some knowledge of the language, you can tap on “Already know some”. It will take you on the placement test. After taking the placement if you are still not happy, you can always jump forward on the unit and follow the steps as shown above.

How to know which Duolingo level you are at?

Whenever you level up in a course it will motivate you. Thus, every time you move on, you may want to know at which level you are. As there are many levels, you may not be able to know at which level you are. So, to find it there is a special website known as Duome. Duome will help you to know at which level you are.

What surprised me about this platform was that I could see Duolingo levels by percentage. I was able to determine how much of a level remained or how many XP points were needed to complete the level, both in percentage.

Why the old Duolingo level were removed?

The old level system on Duolingo tries to check the progress you made by the number of XP points you have earned. Unfortunately, not all the courses have the same amount of content. It means that you do not have the opportunity to gain a high amount of XP from smaller courses. Let me tell you that I have taken both Spanish and High Valyrian courses on this platform. As Spanish is a highly updated course, I was able to earn a lot of XP scores from it when compared to high Valyrian.

When I was at the last lesson of both courses, I saw that I was able to earn double the XP score from the Spanish course. However, presently the progress is checked based on where you are. Thus, it is a better way than the old Duolingo levels system.
