Cudoo Review 2024: Affordable but Less Useful
I always prefer to give a try to new platforms. It not only helps me to explore but also to find out if it is beneficial for me or not. Recently, I tried one platform, Cudoo. Despite being a common name, I had never used it before. Thus, I thought to give it a try. If you are a serious learner and thinking of using it, read the Cudoo review first. I hope sharing my experience will help you understand whether to go with it or not.
Quick Takeaways
- Cudoo provide courses for different subjects.
- There are diploma and other courses to take on.
- The number of courses for each language is different.
- The lessons created are boring and not engaging.
What is Cudoo?
Cudoo was established by language and professional development institutes from three nations-
- United States
- Middle East
- Europe
The platform did not work well but the team made it a point not to stop there. In fact, in the previous years, they have added courses for different subjects too. There are so many skill-based subjects on the platform. Some of the courses offered are:
- Languages
- Engineering
- Accounting and Finance
- Humare Resources
- Management
- Psychology
It has 13000+ courses and more than 1000 professionals.
Languages Offered
The platform teaches more than 160 languages. This is a unique thing about the platform. However, below I have mentioned some languages on it-
English | French | Armenian | Nepali | Thai | Hawaiian |
Sign language | German | Bosnian | Latin | Chibemba | Malayalam |
Korean | Italian | Catalan | Basque | Hindi | Greek |
Spanish | Portuguese | Chinese | Hebrew | Japanese | Icelandic |
Arabic | Afrikaans | Bulgarian | Bengali | Czech | Gujarati |
Turkish | Vietnamese | Welsh | Yiddish | Hausa | Finnish |
Prices of Cudoo
The pricing of the platform is different from other subscription-based platforms. It is more like Coursera or Udemy, where the prices depend on the course. As I was practicing Italian, there were 8 courses on it. The price starts from $1.99 – $24.99 for a single course. In another course, the prices were even higher. Langauge like French, had a course that costs up to $370.00.
Course Overview
There are two main sections to get the course from-
- Browse courses
- Diploma courses
1. Browse courses
Browse courses include the normal courses that I could take. On clicking the language there are courses related to it. I tried it for the Italian language and got 8 courses on it. But when I looked for an Albanian course, there were only 5 courses. Thus, we can say that the number of courses in a language depends upon the language studying. There are different types of courses for each language. I have mentioned them below-
- Business Italian
- Italian Level 1
- Italian Level 2
- Italian Level 3
- Italian Bundle
Once you paid for the course, you will be redirected to the lessons of it.
Structure of the lessons
The interface is simple and easy to follow. There will be name of the lessons in the starting. Click on any lesson that you want. The lessons are very similar to each other. It felt like watching the lessons on the PowerPoint transitions on a slideshow. In the videos, there is a basic image with the meaning in the targeted and native language. In addition to that, there is a native speaker audio in it.
The pictures added in the tutorials are not so engaging and dull at the same time. There are only translations and audio, making it boring. No explanations. Honestly, I never completed the whole course. The positive side of the lessons was the availability of recordings by multiple native speakers,
Let us come to the practice and exercise section. There were many exercises with different approaches. They only checked if I could translate the words or phrases. Nothing else than that. Some of the exercises that I got are:
- Multiple-choice questions
- Drag-and-drop exercises
The multiple-choice question exercises are again a bad feature. They are again not engaging and cover limited information. The biggest regret of using it happened when I got only 2 questions for the review section. I mean there is no sense of doing it. For drop-and-drag exercises, I would say just one line: “Engaging but too Basic”. In this exercise, all I had to do, was to match the country’s names with the translated name. Of course, it was too easy to go through.
Once the lesson was completed, there was a summary of the topics covered on it. They were short and brief. There were very less review activities on it.
However, with each course, the platform clearly defines why should you learn that language and the time duration for it.
2. Diploma courses
There are two types of diploma courses on the platform-
- American Sign Language
- TEFL Certification Online
I will discuss both the courses in brief below-
a. American Sign Language (ASL)
There are 100 hours of learning on this platform for ASL. This course will start from teaching the basics of the language and reach a more advanced level. Here, the course is divided into three different levels. In addition to that the course also offers two important parts of sign language – for Toddlers and Scuba Diving Hand signal courses. Below I have mentioned what you will get with each level-
- Level 1 – It teaches some easy signs like swimming, driving a car, numbers, pronouns, occupations, etc. In short, it covers all the basics of the language.
- Level 2 – This section will cover the part where how to ask questions, the location of the objects, etc. is covered. It also covers food types, verbs, and tenses.
- Level 3 – In this level, you will understand how to communicate in daily life. From weather to medical emergencies, everything is covered.
- Babies and toddlers – It covers every aspect important for communicating with the babies and toddlers. Some of them are Manual alphabets, numbers, colors, etc.
- Scuba Diving: It covers a list of general signals like directions or emergency signals.
- In addition to the whole course, there is an E-book attached to it. It covers everything that needs to start with sign language.
b. TEFL Certification Online
TEFL is a course that helps in learning how to teach English. There are 120 hours of learning in this course with dedicated instructors in it. Learn at your own pace from anywhere you want. The course is created in the following manner-
- Learning the background information about the latest teaching style. It will cover them all.
- Understanding the grammar in a fun and easy manner. It will keep your interest active with the content.
- Most of the people have different pronunciations. Thus, the course will teach you how to deal with this problem.
- Next is the most important part of the course. Teaches how to teach vocabulary considering real-life experiences.
- After this stage, it is the time to make the lesson plans.
- Gives a lot of activities and teaches strategies to teach all four skills- Reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
This is how they will give you a full understanding of how to teach virtually and online.
Cudoo Review: Should you use it?
I am sure after reading how the lessons are created, you have got an idea of if it is useful or not. The lessons have a very basic structure. There are basic images with the words and the translations which make it boring. Trust me, even after buying it, I didn’t completed the course. Even if, it gets free, I would never recommend using it. Though, it offers a certificate, there is no fun of getting it. I mean getting a certificate is no fun, if you don’t know it. Below I have mentioned the benefits and drawbacks of it separately-
Pros | Cons |
More than 160 languages | No explanations |
A lot of audio from the native speakers | Fewer practices opportunities |
Certificate is offer | Few review questions while reviewing the content |
Prices are nominal | No engaging content on the platform |
As I mentioned above, this platform offers courses on different subjects. I can’t say about other subjects, but the courses for languages are seriously a waste. Instead of using it, try the alternatives of it.
Alternatives of Cudoo
It is important to know some good alternatives to learning a new language. Thus, I am sharing some of the important tools that helped me to learn the language:
a. Duolingo (learning vocabulary)
Duolingo is a free and fun tool to use. It is so engaging that I never get bored with it. The lessons are short and easy to complete. I am a big fan of it. Duolingo’s achievements and gems keep me motivated to complete them. Anyone on a tight budget should consider it once. However, remember it is created for advanced-level learners.
b. Cooljugator (verb conjugation)
Learning a language is incomplete without understanding the verb conjugation. How will you make a sentence if you don’t know the basics behind it? Cooljugator is a platform that helps in such a situation. It teaches you how conjugation is done. There are multiple languages offered on it. Everything is explained so nicely and clearly. The only problem that I had with it was the whole platform was created in a text-based format.
c. LingoDeer (starts with writing section)
The special feature of this platform that makes it different from others is the availability of the Alphabet section. In starting there is a section that teaches, how to write the alphabet. I have used several other platforms. Undoubtedly most of them lack this feature. In addition to the character practice, there is a lot of vocabulary in it.
d. Preply (hiring a private tutor)
Looking to hire a private tutor? Stop your search here. I have given a fantabulous platform that offers this service. Preply is the platform that connected me with several online tutors. These platforms helped me to find a lot of good tutors. The tutors on this platform are very good and helpful. It also allowed me to take the demo sessions before choosing a particular tutor.
Conclusion
Cudoo is a well-known platform that provides courses for various subjects. Whether you want to learn a language or any other skill, there are multiple subjects on it. However, I don’t like Cudoo for learning a language at all. The lessons are too boring. It’s like I am watching a PowerPoint presentation in the form of videos. Also, there are no engaging exercises on it, which makes it more boring. I would never recommend this course to anyone. It’s better to use alternatives like Duolingo, which is free to use.
