Lengalia Review 2024: Is It Worthy? (Honest Opinion)
Did you know that Spanish is one of the most learned languages in the world? There are many reasons behind its popularity, such as its rich culture and history. Spanish was the first language I learned. Of course, the platforms used at that time have now changed. Therefore, to help my students learn Spanish, I continually explore new platforms. One such platform that I recently discovered is Lengalia. I hadn’t used it before, so I decided to give it a try. I believe it’s an app that a serious learner should never miss out on. Wondering why? Stay with me, and I’ll give you the answer.

- The course in this platform is divided into different sections like introduction, exercises, reading, etc. Each section helps in improving the skills and increase or knowledge.
What is Lengalia?
This is the platform that is properly known to teach Spanish. It Is the run that helps in focusing on Spanish language. Lengalia helps in immersing yourself in Spanish. It offers 24 online Spanish courses which is the ultimate benefit to a Spanish learner. You can study anytime you want without having any particular schedule. Some of the courses that are available on this platform are mentioned below-
- Spanish courses for beginners
- Travels Spanish course
- Spanish pronunciation
- Business Spanish and many more
How does Lengalia work?
The platform follows a specific approach to learning the language. Below I have discussed everything in detail-
1. Placement test
In starting there is a placement test, which helps in understanding the language level. This is like the Duolingo placement test, which helped me to know my learning level. In this test, there were different types of questions, mainly including MCQs. Along with that, there were comprehension questions. Which helps in deeply understanding the language. This test will place you at the right learning level. In starting it will test your knowledge for A1 A2 level.
I think that is a cool way to check your understanding. In many other placement tests, they try to test all the levels together. It actually makes it hard to check where we stand. The placement test for this platform is different. First, it will test if you have completed the beginner level or not. After that, there is a placement test for the intermediate level.
2. Courses
Once you complete the test, you will have to select the course according to your learning level. If you are a beginner, I would suggest you start with a beginner A0 course. All the courses are subdivided into different parts. Let me show you have the grammar lessons are created on the platform-
a. Goal
When you select the first lesson, you will see there are different tabs on the screen. This section covers what you will learn from the course. It basically shows what exactly will be taught in the lesson.
b. Introduction
The next section is the introduction section. It covers a short story with MCQ-based questions in it. However, this is not the same for the A1-A2 level. The introduction part of them covers the sentences having specific words. You have to read and listen to them. There are no exercises for them.
c. Grammar lesson
After the introduction, there are grammatical points covered in the whole lesson. As in the beginning, the lessons were in the simple present tense. To make you understand the language, there were some detailed explanations about the language. However, there are some errors in the content. I really did not like the fact that there were grammatical errors in the lesson itself.
As I had already learned the language, it was easy for me to detect the mistakes in it. However, for a new learner, it is quite tough to get that. Keeping this aside, there are conjugation tables and videos to get the grammatical knowledge. Of course, they are helpful, but some errors may restrict you from learning the message.
d. Exercises
There are 10 different types of exercises on this platform. The first is to choose the correct word. In it, you will get some words and you have to choose the correct option with it. If needed, hear the sound. The next exercise is converting the simple sentences into the specific tense. For example, I got the sentence ‘Ana Lee’ (Meaning: Ana reads).
I had to choose the correct answer to make them in the present continuous tense. This is like translating the sentences into a particular tense. It also has fill-in-the-blanks where I had to choose the correct word and the tense to complete the sentence. There were also comprehensive questions to which I needed to give answers.
e. Vocabulary
Generally, the vocabulary section of most of the learning platforms covers the words and phrases along with their meanings. But for this platform, this section works differently. There are words along with two options having different meanings. You have to choose the right option. There are also pictures along with those words. However, you will not always get the correct meaning from those pictures. It also has exercises including comprehension and choosing the antonyms of the words.
f. Communication exercises
It is another exercise following the similar approach of questions which are multiple choice questions. I really did not like this section match. This is because I thought, the communication section would involve a practice for conversation. But instead, there were questions like how to know which bike is faster (written in Spanish). Below the question, there were answers for it, again in Spanish. I had to choose the correct answer for the particular question. This can be a good practice for learners at advanced levels. However, for beginners, it may be hard as there are no explanations for wrong questions.
g. Reading
This section involves reading comprehension and selecting the right option. There will be a short back story of the passage and below that there are conversations between two people. Based on the conversation and the whole story there are some questions asked to you. You have to choose the right option for it and mark the answers. With that, there is also audio attached to the exercise. It helps in improving the listening skills as well.
h. Audio
This is a very interesting section. Here, I got audio for each question, and based on that you have to answer it. I find this to be cool. Some questions were more like Mathematics. It also has videos that were missing in other sections. Adding up videos makes the learning process much more engaging and easier. Thus, I was so happy with this section.
i. Dictation
It is the section that helps in testing the listening and writing skills. In this section, you will get the audio in Spanish and Latin America. Listen to it and then type what you heard. This is again creative way to make the learner engaged with the lessons. In starring it was hard to understand the audio. But thanks to playback speed, I could adjust the speed.
3. Additional sections
In addition to how the full course is created, many other tabs helped me to learn the language-
a. Tutor
The tutor section basically comes with the online tutor option. In this section, some AI-based tutors help in optimizing learning sports. It helps to give answers to all the questions and combine the world with an optimal learning experience. Not just the AI tutor but the founder of this platform will also help give the answers personally.
b. Podcasts
There are so many Spanish podcasts that help in improving it. The podcast on this platform performs the same task. It has dialogues with transcripts that help in learning the language. There is a glossary of the words and phrases which are more related to the lessons. I believe that getting the right pronunciation, and knowing how a native speaker talks are important.
Podcast plays a crucial role in it. It involves deep knowledge of Spanish culture. Having a connection with the culture helps in understanding the language. The exercises and the audio section took parts from podcasts to boost my Spanish knowledge. There are 10 pages of reading and 16 audio clips to practice.
c. Certification
Why you are learning the language? To travel? Or to get a job? Whatever, your reason is, it is always useful to get the related certificate. This platform helps in getting that too. There is a CEFR-level certification for every learner. Complete the course and get one. Of course, it does not enjoy the privilege of DELE or SIELE certificates, but are less expensive. Thus, if you need it, check if this can be used or not.
d. Verb Conjugator
It is a basic feature that you can use to focus on the Conjucation and vocabulary practice. For the verb practice, choose the tense of the verb and get some flashcards. Flashcards help in showing the words under organizers. It covers the tenses and translations. It also has a pronoun with which I can conjugate. Just think about the meaning of the word in your mind and flip the card. Check if the answers were correct or not.
e. Achievements
Have you ever used Duolingo? If yes, you must have heard about the Duolingo leaderboard. This section works similarly to it. In this section, I got the list of the other learners according to the points they have earned. This is like a way of knowing where you stand among others.
Is Lengalia worth it?
Lengalia offers a vast material to learn the language at different levels. The main focus of this platform is to make learners aware of the Spanish concepts. In fact, it has special courses for travel and business. Along with it, there is a CEFR certification. However, the only problem with this platform is the unavailability of speaking exercises. Despite being a paid platform, there are very less speaking exercises. Though there is intensive content to learn, I could not work on conversational skills.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of the platform?
To choose whether the platform is worth it or not, it is important to know the benefits and drawbacks of it. Thus, below I have mentioned them in the table-
Pros | Cons |
Offer detailed material at different levels. | There are some mistakes in it. |
There are courses for different topics like travel, business, etc. | Less speaking and writing practice. |
It offers CEFR certifications for students. |
Lengalia Alternatives
Nothing is perfect in this world. The same goes for Lengalia. Also, I believe to learn the language fully, it is important to use 2 to 3 platforms together. Therefore I am sharing some alternatives with you-
1. Baselang
If your ultimate goal is to practice conversation, this is what you need. There are tutors with whom you can connect and practice Spanish. The platform covers two main plans real world and grammar less program. The real-world program will help you to take unlimited classes with the tutors. I think there is no better way to improve your pronunciation and conversational skills than using this platform.
2. LingoDeer
LingoDeer is the platform that helps engagingly engage the language. It is the one that starts by teaching the alphabet and then covering the full course. Anyone who wants to learn the language from starting can use this platform. It also has a travel Phrasebook that helps me to learn a lot of vocabulary for traveling.
3. iTalki
iTalki is a platform that has online tutors to connect with. It is the one where you can find multiple tutors to learn Spanish. I usually use it when I am stuck on something that cannot be self-learned. There is also a filter option that helps in finding a tutor based on your budget. In addition to that, it also offers a free feature which is the community feature, where you can connect with other learners and chat with them related to a specific topic.
Conclusions
Lengalia is a platform that focuses solely on Spanish for different levels. Its main aim is to help everyone learn Spanish concepts. There are multiple courses, including special ones like travel and business. It also provides the CEFR certificate for Spanish learners. The only problem I noticed is the lack of speaking exercises. Although it is a paid platform, there is no conversational practice available. If you want to engage in conversations with real native speakers, try some other alternatives like BaseLang.
