Cooljugator Review 2024: Best for Verb Conjugations
Grammar is a subject that is never addressed by language learning platforms. It’s because most of them feel like grammar is not a necessary part of the language. They believe that to get fluent in the language, one must focus on speaking skills. But they forget that without understanding the basics behind it, no one can actually learn it. In such a situation, it feels overwhelming to find a platform that focuses on a particular part of grammar. Cooljugator is the one that helped me focus on an important aspect of grammar, i.e., verb conjugation.
I know you are really interested in knowing more about the platform. Let us not waste time and see how the platform works in this Cooljugator review.
What is a Cooljugator?
Cooljugator is a cool platform that helped me learn more about the verb conjugator. There are over 40 languages on this platform. There are conjugated forms, English translations, transcripts, etc., for each of the language. Despite being a platform that is still in progress, it works commendably. It provides multiple features, not just to look at the right form but also to understand why it has the correct form. I will discuss the working of the platform in later parts, let me first help you understand the basics of the platform which is the verb Conjugator.
What is the verb Conjugator?
A verb conjugator is basically a modification in the verbs. The modifications are based on different factors. Some of the factors that affect verb conjugators are-
- Number
- Person
- Tenses
- Aspect
- Voices and others
Every factor changes the verb according to it. Suppose I talk about the verb changing in reference to a Person. In such a scenario, do is used with me but with she or he, does is used. For example –
- I do enjoy the work
- She does enjoy the work
Similarly, it also depends upon the tenses used. For example:
- I will go to school tomorrow.
- I went to school yesterday.
The main aim of Cooljugator is to provide us with as many verbs as possible. The verb conjugations that are used mostly, will be on screen most of the time.
As mentioned above, this was a new platform for me. So, I tried it in two different languages German and Japanese.
Course Overview
The way the courses are created is very simple. This platform is more like a textual basis than a visual one. When I opened the app, there were direct links to check the conjugation for each language. I didn’t struggle to find them. The courses were divided into different sections. Here are each of them-
1. Subject Conjugation
The first section showed how the Cooljugator worked to teach the conjugator. It’s like a brief to understand how the next sections are created. This section helped me to understand there will be conjugations between regular and irregular German verbs based on the tenses. This tool is a great source for those having problems handling any kind of verbs in a new language.
2. Common verbs
The next section is the section where I get multiple verbs. In this section, I got a list of verbs that are commonly used. Tap on a verb and a new window will be open. You get the meaning and conjugations based on different factors. After taping the verb, there was a list of Conjugations along with the examples of it. If you are still confused, there are also translations available for you.
3. Verb conjugation basics
This section covers the process of how the verbs are changed. Usually, it is done by adding prefixes and suffixes. Also, there is a change from vowel to verb stems. The prefixes and suffixes are different for all the languages. It follows a particular pattern and contains many such verbs in it. Please note that the prefixes and suffixes are different for each language. They allow us to place an action on time by describing real scenarios.
4. Regular conjugations
Regular verb conjugations are a very important aspect of a language. They are also known as weak verbs. These verbs are the one which has specific endings that are involved in a stem. In the English language, usually, there is used as a suffix in regular verbs. But for other languages it is different. If talk about German, the regular verb conjugations are done by -e, -st, -en, etc. On the other hand, for the Japanese, it will be different. This platform makes sure that you know each of them.
5. Irregular conjugations
A verb that does not have a proper pattern for conjugation, is known as an irregular verb. Just like regular conjugations, the style of conjugating irregular verbs will be different for each language. For instance, in German, Sprechen ( to speak) is changed to ich sprach. Whereas, for Estonian, minima (to go) becomes lähen in the present tense and läksin in the past tense.
6. Helping verb conjugation
This section explains how the helping verbs are conjugated in a specific language. The helping verbs are the ones used with main verbs or principal verbs. It basically helps to donate actions done by the subject. Again there is a different way of conjugating the helping verbs.
7. Context in conjugation
Context is also important to understand how the conjugation will be done. It is because the communication level is different having multiple frames. Sometimes we use verbs while asking a question. Whereas, at another point in time, we may use it as a reply. The way a verb will be used in both contexts is different. Also, the mood and the relationship of the speakers can change the content of the conjugations.
8. How to learn conjugation fast?
It was surprising for me to find this section in only a few languages. Start by focusing on the most common verbs used in a language. It eases the learning experience, making it easier to communicate with each other. Try to group the verbs which follow a similar conjugation method. It makes it easy for us to learn multiple verbs. Be consistent with your practice by using Choolijugator. Another quick way to get immersed in it is by listening to podcasts or songs. It will help to know what type of conjugation will be followed within a particular conversation.
Cooljugator Review: Should you use it?
Most of the platforms fail to add Grammatical content. This platform specifically covers a grammatical topic which is verb conjugations. It is the aspect that is important to have the right conversation. Cooljugator is the tool that helps you to learn it properly. Although Cooljugator is in the developing stage, it is still a perfect platform for anyone who wants to develop verb conjugations. There are explanations, examples, and also translations for a verb in other languages. The platform is absolutely free. I really think it’s a great platform to learn the verb conjugations. However, the whole platform is created on a textual basis. Due to that, you may feel bored of it.
Resources to use along Cooljugator
Cooljugator is the platform that only teaches verb conjugation. But how to learn a language fully? Of Course by using some other language resources. Here are some platforms to use along with it-
1. LingoDeer – Gamified learning style
An engaging way to learn a new language is by using the platforms that follow the Gamified approach. LingoDeer is a platform that follows a similar approach. Each exercise gave me some exercises that helped me to earn some extra points. Not only that, this platform covers one such aspect, that most of the languages fail to. It is the alphabet feature.
2. iTalki – Learning through online tutors
iTalki is the platform that helped me to connect with online tutors. This platform has made it easy for students to get a good tutor under budget. There are two types of tutors based on the teaching experience and degree. If you are on a tight budget, try to connect with community tutors.
Remember: Just because they are hired as a community tutor, it does not mean that they have less knowledge.
3. Mango languages – Best for conversational practice
This platform is best suited for those who want to improve their conversational skills. There will be a pre-recorded conversation between two persons. Just hear it and read the translations. After that, there will be words from the conversations. Give the right translation for it.
